Volunteer Opportunities

Older Adult Services greatly appreciates the support volunteers bring to the Cooper Center and the surrounding community. Interested in volunteering? Complete a volunteer application.

Volunteer Opportunity: Cooper Center Front Desk Ambassador

Are you friendly, dependable, and passionate about helping others feel welcome? The Cooper Center is seeking dedicated individuals to serve as Front Desk Volunteers, the true backbone of our organization.

This is a selective volunteer position. Interviews with the Center Director are required, as we are committed to finding the right people for this important role.

Why This Role Matters

The front desk is the heart of our center. You are often the first smile members see and the last goodbye they receive. Your presence sets the tone for the entire day and helps create a warm, supportive community.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Warmly greeting members and visitors
  • Registering participants for programs and activities
  • Answering phones
  • Processing parking stickers
  • Placing reminder calls
  • Scheduling appointments for services
  • Providing information on GoGo Newton and other community resources
  • Assisting with program check-ins
  • Answering basic questions and providing general information
  • Assigning Cooper Cards
  • Data entry
  • Supporting staff with light administrative tasks
  • Maintaining a welcoming and organized environment

Interview Process & Selection

Interview required with the Director.

Positions will be filled on a rolling basis, starting immediately. Training will begin within two weeks of being offered a position.

If selected, candidates must:

  • Complete a CORI background check
  • Submit a volunteer application

Volunteers will work directly with the Cooper Center Concierge Team to provide this essential role of welcoming the community to Cooper.

OAS Director Mignonne Murray to coopercenter@newtonma.gov or drop off the letter at the front desk.

Your letter should include:

  • Any relevant work or volunteer experience
  • If you do not have direct experience, please share why you are interested in this role


Commitment Required

Volunteers must commit to at least one 4-hour shift per week.

Available Shifts

Monday – Friday

  • 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM
  • 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM
  • 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Saturday

  • 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM
  • 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Sunday

  • 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM
