FESTA PAINTING PROGRAM

The St. Mary of Carmen Society festival has been held in Nonantum for close to 90 years. In order to recognize, celebrate and preserve this long-standing Newton tradition, the City has implemented a program in which volunteers may paint green white, and red lines in designate areas of the public way and on certain City owned fire hydrants within the public way.

Between July 1st and 12:00 pm on the Monday immediately before the St. Mary of Carmen Society festival begins, volunteers may:

• Paint green, white, & red long lines on one side of the double yellow centerline on Adams Street between Watertown Street and Washington Street as noted in red on the map attached as Attachment A (the “map”). Paint must be Traffic-Lok pavement marking paint available at Lowes or available online at Traffic-Lok Marking Paint at Lowes.com
• Paint green and red between the white lines in crosswalks located on Adams Street between Watertown Street and Washington Street as noted in red on the map. The paint must be Traffic-Lok pavement marking paint available at Lowes or available online at Traffic-Lok Marking Paint at Lowes.com
• Paint short (approximately 48” x 18”) green, white, and red lines on roads within the Nonantum neighborhood—excluding Watertown Street, Crafts Street, California Street, and Washington within the purple square noted on the map. An example of the design is attached as Attachment B.
• Paint fire hydrants green, white & red within the purple square noted on the map. The top of the hydrant cannot be painted white. An example of the design is attached as Attachment C. The paint must either be a RUST-OLEUM High Performance Protective Enamel or meet the specifications on the attached safety data sheet. The RUST-OLEUM paint is available for purchase at Lowes or available online at https://www.lowes.com/
