The Resource Recovery Center Hours:

*Weather Related Closing May Occur Unexpectedly: Please call Customer Service at 617-796-1000 if there has been a heavy snow or rain storm. Rain and thunderstorms often cause flooding at the Resource Recovery Center, which leads to temporary closure of the site.

City of Newton residents ONLY - this collection site is for material generated from Newton residences. Open to all Newton residents, including those that do not receive curbside service. 

City of Newton businesses can drop off cardboard and single stream recycling. No other materials are accepted from businesses or commercial vehicles. 

Proof of Newton residency or business address required upon request.

Accepted Materials for drop off at the Resource Recovery Center (PDF)

1. Shredding is for RESIDENTIAL materials only (no business materials). Staples/paperclips may be left attached to documents, and paper bags may be shredded. Already shredded paper is also accepted since it is NOT allowed in the green recycling carts or at the Center.

2. Bring your old or unused prescription medications to be properly disposed. NO liquids, aerosols, or sharps will be accepted. (Sharps are collected separately at the Center, check here for more details.)

Drive-through service only; residents must remain in their cars during shredding and drug take-back for everyone's safety. This secure event will be overseen by the Newton Police Department and participants will not be permitted to watch their items being shredded; departure is required once your car is emptied. 

There is no cost to participate. However, donations to the Newton Senior Center are appreciated. Mail a $10+ donation to the Newton Senior Center or donate by credit card at newtonseniors.org; please click on the "Pay Online" button. Or, bring cash or a check to the event and it will be gratefully accepted.

 Typically there is a paint collection event in spring and fall. Check back soon!

The Latex Paint Exchange Program is held seasonally at the Resource Recovery Center from May-October. Not open on Saturdays. 

This shed is kept locked, see attendant to drop off paint or to "shop" for paint to use. All drop-offs must be approved by attendant. 

Accepted: Usable, latex paint. Cans must be less than 10 years old and more than half full. If the paint has ever been frozen (i.e. stored in a garage or shed over winter) it is no longer usable and must be dried out and disposed as trash.

Limit: FOUR 1-gallon cans and FOUR sample cans per household per year

Not Accepted: Cans of latex paint that are less than half full, have been frozen at any time, or are otherwise unusable must be dried up and disposed of safely with your trash. We encourage you to use newspaper or kitty litter to aid in drying. There are also paint hardening products available at hardware stores.

NO oil based paints/stains. These materials are accepted only during household hazardous waste events.
