Sustainable Materials Management - Trash and Recycling
Service update:
Due to the snowstorm, the regularly scheduled trash and recycling pickup on Friday, February 27 will be delayed by a full week and will happen on Friday, March 6. Click here for our FAQ document for more details.

Resource Recovery Center Hours:
November 1- March 31 (Winter hours)
Monday – Friday: 7am – 2:30pm
Saturday: 9am – 1pm
Closed Sundays, holidays, and occasionally due to heavy rain/snow.
The Center will be closed Monday, April 20, in observance of the Patriots' Day holiday.

Recycling
- At the curb: Our educational materials including the Recycle Right flyer (now available in simplified Chinese, Russian, Spanish, and Portuguese).
- Drop-off: Visit our Recycle at the Resource Recovery Center page to see the 25+ types of materials you can drop off for recycling, donation, or composting.
- MA Recycle Smart program has a great recycling lookup tool and a curbside recycling guide available in 9 languages.
- MA Beyond the Bin search tool to find local recycling outlets for difficult to recycle items.
Textiles (clothes/linens)
Clean, dry textiles, in any condition, can be donated. Newton partners with Helpsy for textile donation to offer clothing/textile drop-off locations and curbside collection service.
Yard Waste & Christmas trees
Newton residents may drop off yard waste and Christmas trees at Newton's Resource Recovery Center all year long.

Did you know that smaller, easier to manage 35-gallon carts are available to residents upon request? Please contact customer service at 617-796-1000 to swap your larger carts for smaller ones. *Note that the option to swap for a smaller cart applies to both trash and recycling or only trash. There cannot be a smaller recycling cart with a larger trash cart.
