The Economic Development Commission (EDC) promotes and develops business and industry for the purpose of strengthening the local economy, creating jobs, and expanding the City's tax base.

The Commission consists of Newton residents who have volunteered and been appointed by the Mayor to serve 3-year terms. Commissioners examine commercial trends and local economic conditions and provide policy recommendations to City officials and staff.
