welcomeThis Economic Development Strategic Plan focuses on four strategic objectives:

  1. EMPOWER NEWTON’S COMMERCIAL POTENTIAL. Cultivate Opportunities for Existing and New Businesses

  2. STREAMLINE PROCESSES. Streamline Regulatory Processes to Expedite Business Approvals

  3. ELEVATE NEWTON. Champion Newton’s Commercial Character

  4. LEVERAGE ARTS & GEOGRAPHY. Strengthen the Link Between Arts, Culture, and Village Economies

The 2025 plan builds on the research and planning work completed in 2019 and  documented in the comprehensive 2019 Action Plan. The 2025 update responds to changes since the pandemic. Demographic and market research and stakeholder interviews were performed between January and October of 2025. Editorial development was completed in November and December.

The work was completed through the efforts of City staff in collaboration with the Economic Development Commission, and with the assistance of economic development consultant Camoin Associates. Costs were paid with a $50,000 grant from the Community Compact Best Practices program which Newton received from the Healy Administration in September 2024.
