City of Newton, MA
Home MenuIntegrated Pest Management
These pages are intended to inform and educate Newton’s residents on the City’s Integrated Pest Management policies and procedures. The Newton Parks & Recreation Department is planning to use herbicides on a small section of athletic fields at Burr Park, New Cold Springs and Newton Highlands during the summer of 2026. Newton utilizes a formal Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach that outlines best practices for addressing pests. Pesticide use is part of a well-constructed IPM program that dictates when pesticide use is appropriate based on a variety of inputs including the location, intended use, degree of pest population and their impact on the utility of the asset.
