Join us for an inspiring evening at the Newton Community Stage with Women in World Jazz, an all-female international ensemble bringing the vibrant sounds of global music to Newton!

This dynamic performance celebrates women’s contributions to music and culture, featuring an eclectic mix of styles—from the rhythms of Cuba’s cha cha and Cape Verde’s Coladeira to the melodies of Israel, Brazil, and Japan, all infused with classic jazz favorites.

Perfect for the whole family, the concert blends live music, storytelling, and dance to transport audiences around the world through sound. Each performer is a seasoned musician and educator from the New England area, united by a shared passion for connecting cultures through the universal language of music.

Come experience the joy, energy, and global harmony of Women in World Jazz—a celebration not to be missed!

FEBRUARY 2026

 

A terrible drought has overtaken the land, and the world has turned brown and lifeless. The Dragon King is the ruler over all water, and the people are beginning to wonder why he has not brought life-giving rains in such a long time.An underwater fantasy based on Chinese folklore, The Dragon King tells the tale of an intrepid grandmother who journeys to the bottom of the sea in search of the elusive Dragon King and the answers to why he has forsaken the land above.

This award-winning production features colorful sea creatures, a daring adventure, and a huge Dragon King puppet that will amaze and delight you. Don't miss the beautiful hand-crafted marionettes, elaborate sets, and integrated lighting and sound that create an immersive and exciting theatrical experience enjoyable for all ages.

This performance takes place at the Newton Community Stage at 15 Walnut Park in Newton, at the new Lincoln-Eliot School.

Advance ticket purchase is recommended and is available until 11pm on Monday, February 16.

Advance tickets are $8; tickets purchased at the door are $10 while supplies last.

Tickets are required for each person over the age of 12 months old. Children younger than 12 months may sit on the lap of a caregiver.

Note: There are no actual tickets; your reservation counts as your ticket and your name will be on a list at the Will Call table when you arrive for the show. A limited number of tickets are available through the Newton Arts Pass program for families in need of financial assistance. Contact culture@newtonma.gov for details.
