FC-Academy-FINAL-2017

August 24 - 28, 2026

We are once again partnering with FC Academy for two great programs in 2026.

Registration opens on January 28, 2026 for Newton residents and on March 1 for non residents online at www.newtonmarec.com

These programs run from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm and cost $475.00 for residents or $490.00 for non residents.

Stop Motion Animation - Grades 1 to 5
Learn the principles of animation and create your own short film using various materials provided by FC Academy and objects from home.  Participants will  learn and explore their creativity and storytelling skills while also implementing filmmaking techniques such as editing, camera use and directing.

*This course requires a touch screen device with access to the free app Stop Motion Studio (available for iPods, iPhones, iPads, Androids, etc)*  Newton Parks and Recreation has a few devices that can be borrowed if children don't have their own device.  Children borrowing a device may need to work in small groups.

Movie Making - Grades 5 to 8
Bring creativity to life in a fun, collaborative and exciting environment. Learn skills in scriptwriting, storyboard sketching, improvisation and camera skills. Students who have previously participated will be able to expand on their filmmaking skills. Together with your group you'll write, shoot and edit a film in a genre of your choosing and edit your project together using the professional editing software Adobe Premiere.

All films made will be submitted to the Boston International Kids Film Festival for a chance to be selected and screened at the festival in November 2026! FC Academy will also put on an end of the summer screening to celebrate the films made all over the state by our FC Academy students!

Additional Things to Know
Please note that this is a summer program and does not follow all of the the same guidelines as our summer camps.  Feel free to email if you have questions regarding the differences.

Extended morning and extended afternoon programs are offered for parents that need a longer day.  Extended morning and afternoon will be supervised by Parks and Recreation staff and will include general activities like gym, inside games and arts & crafts.
