Program Overview
The City of Newton's Human Services Division facilitates a summer internship program for Newton youth, ages 16-18.
The Newton YouthWorks Summer Internship Program provides a hands-on learning experience that pairs real world job experiences, with career competency and post-secondary skill building workshops.
With the assistance of MassHire Metro South/West and the YouthConnections program, the City of Newton offers participants an hourly wage, making this a true employment experience.
Each summer the Newton YouthWorks Summer Internship Program includes a June participant orientation as well as 6 weeks of part-time paid employment. 20-25 participants are selected to receive 15-20 hours of on-the-job experience in addition to 2 hours of career competency training per week.
The 2026 Newton YouthWorks Summer Internship Program will begin the week of July 6, 2026 and run through the end of the week of August 10, 2026. Intern schedules vary by worksite, and based on intern and supervisor needs. Weekly program workshops will take place on Thursdays from 10:00am - 12:00pm in the War Memorial Auditorium at Newton City Hall (1000 Commonwealth Ave, Newton, Ma 02459).
*If you need a reasonable accommodation, please contact the City's ADA Coordinator as early as possible in advance of the event at ADACoordinator@newtonma.gov or (617) 796-1253.
(The exact start and end date for each summer program session varies based on local school calendars and other factors.)
