Demographic data helps drive planning as the City of Newton prepares to meet the needs of our residents now and in the future. The information provided below offers a look at current data, as well as trends over time, for Newton ranging from population, employment, housing, race/ethnicity and beyond. 

Looking ahead, the Newton Planning Department will be exploring specific demographic data for analyses. These studies will be shared here and used towards policy recommendations for the City Council’s consideration. 

 

Current Snapshot

The 2020 Census provides critical information on the current conditions in the City of Newton. To view a summary report please visit newtonma.gov/NewtonCensus

 

Current Trends

To better understand trends in Newton’s demographics, take a look at this report by the Donahue Institute. Be sure to change the municipality to “Newton” from “Boston.” 

 

Past Reports

In 2014, Barry Bluestone from the Dukakis Center at Northeastern University prepared two demographic reports for the City based on the 2010 Census. Both can be found below.
