Cat serves as the Deputy Chief Planner in the Current Planning Division where she plays a key role in reviewing development proposals and overseeing projects that require special relief. She also leads independent initiatives, such as researching equitable zoning policies related to cannabis in response to evolving state regulations. Additionally, she manages funds collected from large-scale developments that help offset project impacts, ensuring thoughtful and equitable distribution of these resources.
Cat is particularly passionate about affordable housing and has contributed to complex and rewarding projects like the West Newton Armory redevelopment. A fan of navigating planning challenges, Cat brings a hands-on, community-minded perspective to her work.
Cat joined the City of Newton in the summer of 2020 initially as a Planning Associate in the Long Range Planning Division. She has steadily grown within the department, becoming the Senior Planner in the Current Planning Division in Fall 2023 and is now in her current role, Deputy Chief Planner, as of February of 2025. Cat earned her Master’s in Urban and Environmental Planning from Tufts University and her Bachelor’s in Environmental and Urban Studies from Bard College.
Outside of work, you’ll likely find her on her bike, exploring local neighborhoods or heading to the movies. She enjoys traveling, recently taking a belated honeymoon to Japan, and is always on the hunt for a fancy coffee and a sweet treat on the weekends. She also loves sewing, crafting, thrifting, and spending time outdoors.
