David serves as the Chief Preservation Planner in the Historic Preservation Division where he reviews exterior changes and proposed partial and total demolitions to properties over 50 years old, as well as local landmarks and properties with preservation restrictions. He also provides staffing support to the Upper Falls Historic District Commission, the Newtonville Historic District Commission, and the Newton Historical Commission.

Passionate about preserving Newton’s rich architectural and cultural heritage, David is dedicated to finding a balance between maintaining the city’s history and embracing thoughtful change. His work helps ensure that Newton’s past continues to inform and inspire its future.

Before joining the City of Newton in December of 2023, David worked for a historic preservation consulting firm, focusing primarily on historic tax credit projects. David earned a Bachelor’s in History and a Master’s in Preservation Studies, both from Boston University. While at graduate school, David held a variety of internships which included working for the Massachusetts Historical Commission, Minuteman National Historic Park, and the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

Outside of City Hall, David enjoys spending time with his wife, whether they’re watching TV, cooking, or hiking. David also enjoys playing sports like golf and basketball and watching sports, supporting his Philadelphia teams.
