May 7 – 13, 2017 has been designated as Municipal Clerks Week. Presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton both signed proclamations officially declaring the first full week of May as Municipal Clerks Week. The position of Clerk is one of the oldest positions in municipal government and here in Newton is one in which those serving tend to stay for a few years. Current Newton City Clerk David A. Olson is only the 8th City Clerk that Newton has had since Newton became a City in 1873.
Stop by the City Clerk’s office between Monday, May 8th and Friday, May 12th to say hello to the Clerk and his staff, and discover all that the Clerk’s Office does for the City: including supporting the work of the City Council; registering birth, death and marriage certificates; administering elections; and keeping Newton’s records safe and accessible in the City Archives. The Clerk’s Office looks forward to seeing you during Municipal Clerks Week.
