Celebrate Community Development Week!
Please join Mayor Setti D. Warren in celebrating the completion of a major rehabilitation project at the Dare Family Services facility that has significantly improved the quality of life for developmentally disabled adults in Newton. The $180,000 project involved the installation of two new heating systems, ADA-compliant bathrooms and ramps, widening of doorways, reconstruction of a degraded deck and a new lift, resulting in safer living conditions and improved accessibility for the residents.
Funding for this project was provided through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, currently at-risk of being eliminated at the federal level. The City will showcase the importance of CDBG in supporting vulnerable populations and how critical this resource is in preserving economic diversity in communities like Newton.
The Housing and Community Development Division of the City of Newton’s Planning and Development Department will host this ribbon cutting commemorating National Community Development Week at 10:00AM on April 19, 2017 at 249 Mt. Vernon Street in West Newton.
