September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

NEWTON CITY COUNCIL

RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING SEPTEMBER AS CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

WHEREAS, Childhood Cancer is the leading disease killer and second leading cause of death of children under the age of 15 in the United States; and

WHEREAS, more than 15,000 children are diagnosed with some form of cancer annually and approximately one‐quarter of them will not survive the disease; and

WHEREAS, there exists the need to bring attention to the types of cancer that most impact children, to recognize the impact such a diagnosis has on entire families and caregivers and to encourage research and family support;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the NEWTON CITY COUNCIL recognizes the month of September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and reaffirms its commitment to increase awareness and provide support to the children and families who have suffered loss and those who face childhood cancer today.
