Safety and security information for the 2019 Boston Marathon
Monday, April 15, 2019
The 2019 Boston Marathon will take place on Monday, April 15. Runners will travel through Newton on Washington Street, to Commonwealth Avenue to the Boston Line.
There will be road closures along the route beginning on Monday morning.
Washington Street at the Wellesley Line to Beacon Street will close at 8:30 am.
Beacon Street at Washington Street to Washington Street at Commonwealth Avenue will close at 8 am.
Washington Street at Commonwealth Avenue to the Boston line will close at 8 am.
Parking Restrictions will be in place along the Marathon route on Commonwealth Avenue. In addition, carriage lanes along Commonwealth Avenue and parts of streets that feed into the main Marathon route along Comm. Ave will be closed.
Roads are expected to re-open at 6 pm.
Residents who live on Homer St between Commonwealth Ave and Walnut St, Walnut St between Commonwealth Ave and Homer St, Cummings Rd and North St should be advised that this will be a Police Security Zone and therefore will be open to abutters only from 9am-6pm.

Close Commonwealth Ave. From Lowell Ave. To Centre Street
Close Commonwealth Ave. – carriage lane from Bulloughs Park to Cedar Street
Close Walnut Street (between Commonwealth Ave and Homer Street)
Close Walnut Street (between Commonwealth Ave and Lakeview Ave)
These street closures will be in effect on Sunday April 14, 2019 from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm.
