Flag Day

The annual city of Newton Flag Day program takes place Wednesday, June 10th at 6:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Newton lodge of Elks, no. 1327.

Following the tradition of past years in having the annual event at a different location in the city, this year’s event will be in Nonantum at Coletti/Magni park, next to Dunkin Donuts.

Color guards from the Newton police and Newton fire departments, Newton Knights Of Columbus and various veterans organizations will be in attendance.

Alfred r. Guzzi, director of Veterans’ Services for the city of Newton, will open the Flag Day program, after which members of the Newton lodge of Elks will conduct the “Ritual for Flag Day.”

The program will be a family affair, and the Elks invite all families in Newton to attend. Parents and school age children are encouraged to attend this patriotic observance of the flag. Those attending are also invited to visit the Newton lodge of Elks, 429 centre street, Newton corner, where a collation takes place following the program.

Used or torn American flags will be accepted for proper disposal.
In case of rain, the ceremony takes place at the Elks lodge.
