The Mayor’s drop-in Veterans Service Center Open House is open to both Veterans and their Spouse from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on the 1st Tuesday of each Month. The Veterans Service Center Open House is free and open from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on, Tuesday March 6th, 2018 to be held at 345 Walnut Street. We are excited to present the complete PBS documentary series: The Vietnam War. Ten years in the making, the series includes rarely seen and digitally re-mastered archival footage from sources around the globe, photographs taken by some of the most celebrated photojournalists of the 2oth century, historic television broadcasts, evocative home videos and the secret audio recordings from inside the Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon administrations. Ken Burns and Lynn Novick’s ten-part, 18-hour documentary series tells the epic story of one of the most consequential, divisive and controversial events in American history as it has never been told on film
Please be sure to mark your calendar in order to attend our Memorial Day Parade will be held on Sunday May 27th beginning at 3 PM at Newton North High School. The parade route follows the same route as last year from Walnut St. in Newtonville to cross over the Mass Pike turning right onto Watertown St. and finishing at the reviewing stand at Magni-Coletti Park in Nonantum. The following morning the City will conduct its annual wreath laying ceremonies at the Newton Cemetery beginning at 10:00AM. The parade committee is forming the parade divisions next week. If you have a team, civic group or wish to participate please contact me as soon as possible. Cell Phones for Soldiers Cell Phones for Soldiers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing cost-free communication services to active-duty military members and veterans. Newton City Hall is an official drop site for used cell phones that are turned into calling minutes for our troops. Look for the collection box marked "Cell Phones for Soldiers"
