Newtonville Street Banner Design Competition

What are your design ideas for beautifying and celebrating Newtonville?  To help identify a compact, walkable area in Newtonville, to bridge the span over the MassPike, and to complement other placemaking and beautification efforts already underway in the village, the City will be hanging banners from 20 street lights along Walnut Street and Washington Street.  Together with Mayor Setti Warren, the Mayor's Office for Cultural Affairs, the Department of Public Works, Aldermen, and residents and businesses in Newtonville, the Planning and Development Department is sponsoring a design competition to create a graphic identity for Newtonville that will be displayed on the banners. The competition is open to artists who live, work, or attend school in Newton.  Proposals must be submitted in hard copy by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2012.  For design specifications and application, please download the Competition Announcement

Congratulations to Newtonville resident Barbara Fash for submitting the winning design, "Stately Newtonville"! The banners are installed and ready for Newtonville Village Day on Saturday, September 29th.  Thank you to all who participated and submitted beautiful, thoughtful designs.
