Provides state and federal Disadvantaged Business Enterprise certification and SOMWBA certification for women and minority-owned businesses that meet all state and federal requirements and services for those businesses. Certification allows businesses to participate in certain state and federal business assistance programs. In addition to certification, SOMWBA also provides procurement and marketing services, publishes a quarterly newsletter, Certified Business Bulletin and conducts advocacy work.

The Center for Women & Enterprise (CWE) is a regional economic development organization, with offices in Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts and Providence, Rhode Island. CWE offers courses, workshops, individualized consulting, and access to debt and equity capital to entrepreneurs at every stage of business development. As a non-profit, charitable organization, CWE provides its services on a sliding scale basis in order to serve all women, regardless of their ability to pay. CWE's programs and services are open to everyone (including men), but the organization makes special efforts to target low to moderate-income women, especially in the inner city. CWE works with aspiring, emerging and accomplished women entrepreneurs; 60% of clients are in the start-up stages and 40% are seeking to expand their existing businesses.

Women's Enterprise Initiative (WEI)

The purpose of WEI is to assist women in developing successful businesses. The WEI Business Plan Forums provide women with an opportunity to have their business plans critiqued and prepare them to launch a business idea or expand upon an existing one. All women, regardless of the type of business or level of success they envision for themselves, are welcome to submit their business plan for review. The Business Plan Forums allow an entrepreneur to present her business plan for evaluation by a panel of financial, legal, and marketing experts for feedback. The audience, comprised of business people and consumers, are also invited to give feedback and pose their own questions to the panel. WEI's goal for the Business Plan Forums is not only to provide intensive help to each presenter whose plan shows promise, but also to serve as both a networking and educational event for those who attend.
