HUD Income Limits
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) separates lower-income households into categories: very low- income, low-income, and moderate-income. The Area Median Income limits, which are determined annually by HUD are set for geographic regions called Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA's) and not for specific communities. Newton is part of the Boston-Cambridge-Quincy MSA. The current Boston MSA median family income is $97,800. The table below shows the current household income limits for the Boston-Cambridge-Quincy MSA. These income limits play an important role in determining eligibility for federally funded programs such as the Community Development Block Grant Program and the HOME Investment Partnerships Program.
