From concept to completion the division oversees the special permit process required under Chapter 30 of the City Ordinances. This process applies to many different kinds of potential development from additions to small non-conforming structures to large commercial buildings.
The special permit process requires an application to the Board of Aldermen and a public hearing before the Land Use Committee of the Board of Aldermen with notification to abutters within 300 feet of the subject property.
Applicants are encouraged to confer with the Planning Department staff before filing a special permit application with the City Clerk's office.
