Badminton Instruction

Instructional classes are offered on Saturdays in the Fall and Spring and on Sundays in the Winter.  Classes are offered for youth in 2nd - 8th grade, and adults ages 13 and up. 

 

Spring classes have been cancelled because of COVID-19

Family and Drop In Badminton

For people who already know how to play badminton, we offer Family Badminton and Drop In Badminton opportunities throughout the year. 

Family Badminton - reserve a court for your family and friends for a full session of badminton.  Your court is reserved for your family for 1 hour .  Nets are set up but participants must bring their own equipment.  Maximum of 6 people allowed per court.

Drop In Badminton - come and play round robin style games with other individuals.  Nets are set up but participants must bring their own equipment.  Drop in for individual days or for the full session.  Advanced sign up will help guarantee your space.

Fall Session:

  • Wednesdays October 16 - December 18, 2019 at the Newton North High School.  Please note these courts are a hard rubber surface, not a hard wood floor.

Winter Session:

  • Sundays January 5 - February 9, 2020 at the Newton South High School

Badminton Summer Camp
All campers will participate in approximately 3 hours of badminton training and instruction each day.  Coach and instructor Wee Tam and his assistants will teach beginner and intermediate participants the skills of badminton including grip, stroke development, movement around the court, singles and doubles play, and physical training to support badminton skills.  Participants may sign up by week.

This camp is for beginner and intermediate boys and girls going into grades 2 - 8.  Half day (8:30 - 12:15), standard day (8:30 - 3:30) and extended day (8:15 - 5:30) options are available.  Standard day and extended day campers will get to participate choice activities at camp including arts and crafts, inside games, playground, sports, creative writing and S.T.E.M. activities.

2020 Dates:  July 27 - July 31 and August 3 - August 7
