Scottish Dance

Scottish Country Dance:

“Amazing fun!” This group meets at the Lower Falls Community Center located at 545 Grove Street on Wednesday mornings from 10:30-12:00. This class is a great way to exercise body and mind, and just have a ball! Call 617-796-1506 for more information. $2 donation is kindly appreciated.

The Newton dancers are a group of older people who are interested in  Scottish dance.  Some have been dancing for many years and prefer to dance during the day, avoiding driving at night.  Others have only recently discovered this great pastime.  There are usually between 8 and 14 dancers at  each class.  Each person dances with a partner, in a line similar to Contra dancing.  You do not need a partner to dance.

We have both men and women in class, and beginners are always welcome! We dance a mixture of reels, jigs and strathspeys ( a slower version), to a variety of CDs of different Scottish bands. Class is a very social activity filled with fun, laughs and  friendship.

Many in our group are WELL over 55, and some bring their adult children and even grandchildren to the classes, especially in the summer months.  Please feel free to come and watch and/ or join in.  Or just sit and listen to the toe-tapping music we use!

We look forward to seeing you in class!
