Nahanton Nature Center

Nahanton Park has always been a beautiful place for Newtonites and its neighbors to come and enjoy the splendor of nature. It is a very unique park which has a large diversity of wildlife in only 55 acres of land. Habitats in the park include meadows, wooded hillsides, wild blackberry bushes, wetlands, and an open plateau overlooking the river valley. Also available at the park are public walking and jogging trails, a canoe/kayak launch, fishing location, field area, picnic location, community garden, and nature center. These all contribute to the extraordinary exploration opportunities available to the local community that allows them to reconnect with nature on a daily basis.

Our hope with this Nature Center is to create a space that has nature-inspired ex-hibits and programs. These programs will be based on the local environment and community. They will be interactive with hands-on experiences that will be creative and educational. Exhibits and programs will always fall within the mission of the building, which is to promote and educate the community about environmental topics and issues; subject areas include but are not limited to the environment and nature exploration, science, and ecology.

We hope to continue to celebrate and appreciate nature with you and your families in the coming months and years to come!
