The Newton Swim Team is a program designed to promote competitive swimming. It is a compteitive swim team program for ages 6 through 18. The team is designed for any youth seeking the opportunity to challenge himself or herself to achieve excellence in competitive swimming. Athletes will receive quality coaching and training, including the development of good stroke technique. The main goal of our program is to teach all aspects of competitive swimming as well as for each swimmer to enjoy the sport! Swim Team is not a substitution for swim lessons, the Parks and Recreation Department runs a full Red Cross learn to swim program of lessons on Saturday or Sunday mornings during the Winter season.
Winter team practices and has meets at the pool located in Newton North High School Team enrollment is limited and demand has increased to the bursting point in the pool, we have been forced into a situation where we will have tryouts. Decisions of the Coaching Staff are final. Committment is a key to participation. If you can not commit to at least 1 practice per weeknight and to all of the swim meets we encourage you to sign up for a non-competitive program. The recreation department offers a Junior Bluefish non-competition lesson program geared to training participants to be a member of a compteitve team in the future.
