Position Description:

Performs a variety of clerical functions to support the Health and Human Services Department , including the divisions of environmental health, school health, public health and education, human services, weights and measures and licensing and veterans affairs. 

Essential Elements 

  • Follows and adheres to department, City and other government rules, regulations, policies and procedures 

  • Answers and screens telephone calls, takes and/or relays messages; receives, sorts and distributes incoming mail and Faxes. May prepare outgoing mail.

  • Track temperature for refrigerator and freezer

  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.

  • Provide support for designated department staff

  • Assist in assuring compliance and adhering to deadlines when permits expire.

  • Assists with preparation of files, permits and licensing documents as directed.

  • Assists in answering citizen questions and inquiries on application fees and permit processes, the public or others in form completion and the processing of complaints, inquiries, and questions.

  • Prepares reports for use by the Office Manager

  • Answers citizen questions and inquiries on application fees and permit processes. Assists the public or others I form completion and the processing of complaints, inquiries, and questions.

  • Receives and processes applications for permits. Collects and records application and permits, coping and other fees.

  • May be required to act as back up to other department clerical functions.

  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Provides administrative and reception support to the Veterans Affairs Officer.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school/GED and one to three years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of posting, data retrieval and office procedures and the operation of office equipment such as personal computers and computer software, data processing and/or word processing.
