Continuous Testing Program (contest)

The Massachusetts Human Resources Division has developed a new continuous testing program for entry-level non-public safety civil service job titles. This program enables applicants in selected job titles to qualify for positions in state agencies and cities and towns.

The Human Resources Division conducts continuous civil service testing Monday through Friday at One Ashburton Place in Boston from 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Applicants are required to have the applicable license, registration, certificate, education and/or experience to qualify for some positions. General Information & Application Instructions

Examination Application Forms: You may apply for this examination, using a Visa or Mastercard, on-line at the Human Resources Division website csexam.hrd.state.ma.us. A confirmation number for each successful transaction will be issued to the applicant. Application forms may be obtained and filed in person or by mail at the Human Resources Division, Customer Services, 2nd Floor, One Ashburton Place, Boston, may be requested by calling (617) 727-3777, extension 246, or Toll Free at 1-800-392-6178, extension 246. Photocopies of application forms are not acceptable.

Applicants are advised that the Human Resources Division will not accept, or process any application which is incomplete, inaccurate, or damaged. While the Human Resources Division will attempt to notify those applicants who have filed early of any problems with their application so that they may reapply, the responsibility for filing a complete, accurate, and correct application belongs to the applicant. Applicants who miss a scheduled examination due to errors in completing or filing their application will not be given an opportunity to take a makeup examination and are not entitled to an examination fee refund.

Examination Fees: All paper applications must be accompanied by a money order, certified bank check, or by a completed fee waiver form. The examination processing fee is $100 for applications received by midnight March 18, 2013. The fee for applications filled after that date is $150. Applications will not be accepted after April 1, 2013. Payment by money order of bank check should be made payable to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Please print your name, address, social security number, and the examination announcement number on the from of the money order of certified bank check. Payments by MasterCard and VISA are accepted when applying on the website. NO CASH OR PERSONAL CHECKS.

Civil service examination application fees may be waived for applicants who have received benefits under certain types of state or federal public assistance programs, unemployment insurance, or worker’s compensation within the twelve months immediately prior to the date of the examination for which the applicant is filing. The Request For Waiver of Examination Fee Form, which must be submitted with the application, must be completed and signed by the applicant, and documentation (in the form of check stubs, letters of authorization or receipts for benefits) must be attached to the Form. Applicants may obtain copies of the Request for Waiver of Examination Fee Form by visiting the Human Resources Division, Customer Services, 2nd floor, or by calling (617) 727-3777, extension 246, or Toll Free at 1-800-392-6178. These forms are also available at many local City and Town Clerk’s offices.

Refunds: There will be no refund of examination fees unless an examination is canceled by the Human Resources Division.
