Beautiful New Additions to the Durant-Kenrick Grounds
Alongside mature trees like this gorgeous pink dogwood that is in bloom right now, we have new flora being planted on the Durant-Kenrick grounds. New trees include a Silverbell tree with beautiful bark and a Hawthorn tree. Hawthorns were well known by European settlers and Native Americans alike in the colonial era, as there were varieties of the fruit bearing tree on both continents.
To represent the Colonial era, when the Durants lived in the house, we have new Boxwood bushes lining our deck. Representing the nineteenth century, when the Kenricks lived in the house, we will have a bed of plants from the Kenrick Nursery catalog, including a number of heirloom roses, to be planted next week. Also next week a bed of herbs from throughout American history will be installed.
