Historic Newton’s newsletter, published twice a year, has been awarded in the 2019 New England Museum Association (NEMA) Publication Award Competition. The publication, Historic Newton News, won second place in the Newsletters & Magazines category.
In 2017 Historic Newton’s newsletter underwent a major redesign. Newton-based freelance graphic artist Bonnie Katz of Bonnie Katz Design gave it a new look, making prominent use of photos and other images from Historic Newton’s archives. The content of the newsletter, edited by Community Engagement Manager and former journalist Clara Silverstein, also changed. Each issue now focuses on a particular theme, such as gardens or books. Our most recent issue, Spring 2019, looks at the history of water use in Newton as well as current conservation efforts at our museums.
Historic Newton News is published in the fall and the spring each year, and sent to Historic Newton members and corporate supporters. To receive a free copy of the newsletter in the mail, join Historic Newton. Past issues are also available online.
NEMA inspires and connects people engaged with the museum field, provides tools for innovative leadership, and empowers museums to sustain themselves as essential to their communities. The Publications Award Competition received 139 entries from 53 museums of varying sizes.
