Harriet Wood Robinson (1858-1940)
Harriet Wood Robinson, one of the many talented, but little known women artists of the late nineteenth century, was born in Lewiston, Maine. After her marriage to Charles A. Robinson she moved to Auburn, Maine, where she lived until his death in 1908. During these years, she painted still lifes and landscapes in both oil and watercolor and exhibited at local art shows. After her husband's death in a railroad accident, Harriet moved to the home of her brother, music publisher B. F. Wood, at 11 Waverley Avenue in Newton, where she lived until her death in 1940.
