The book selection for the next meeting of the Book Club is The Greater Journey by David McCullough, the award-winning historian and author of Truman and John Adams, both winners of the Pulitzer Prize for Biography. In The Greater Journey, McCullough relates with his usual skill the intellectual migration of Americans in years between 1830 and 1900 who headed not west to the frontier but east to Paris, including James Fenimore Cooper, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Emerson, Hawthorne, Twain, and Henry James, among others. The author describes Paris' impact on these Americans and what they brought back from Paris to this country by the way of culture, ideas, and energy. The book club is free and new members are always welcome.
