On Tuesday, November 8, 2016, the citizens of Massachusetts voted in favor of Question 4, which legalizes recreational marijuana for adults 21 years of age and older. The Massachusetts State Treasurer will appoint a Cannabis Control Commission to promulgate regulations related to recreational marijuana by September 1, 2017. Although licenses for cultivation, manufacture, and retail sales will not be issued until January 2018, certain personal use provisions of the law went into effect on December 15, 2016.
