We don't anticipate any major impact to pedestrians, motorists or bicyclists during this phase.

The project includes the construction of roadway, sidewalk, and streetscape improvements in the heart of historic West Newton Square for construction in 2019/2020.
Thank you to everyone who has been involved in the Concept Design & Detailed Design phases. Newton City Council voted in favor of the project in early 2018. The project is now advancing from planning to implementation. The staff memo to the Council and supporting graphics are available here for review.
The goals of the project include:
The project will study, and develop recommendations for, the “Greater” West Newton Square area, including areas both north and south of the Turnpike and including the two Washington Street bridges. These are likely to be longer-term recommendations to be considered for construction in years beyond this project and will likely involve multiple State agencies as well as the City.
For construction in 2019/2020, the City is committed to enhancing the core of West Newton Square along Washington Street from Lucas Court to Chestnut Street. The City has put a placeholder in the 5 year capital improvement plan (CIP) of $4 million for this project.
