Newton-Brookline Consumer Office

If you are a consumer who believes you have been unfairly treated by a business, please call our office at 617-796-1292, Monday – Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

The Newton-Brookline Consumer office provides free consumer assistance  to Newton and Brookline residents under the auspices of the Newton Department of Senior Services and in cooperation with the Department of the Massachusetts Attorney General.  The office is staffed by Co-Directors, Mim Cole and Judy Zohn, and trained volunteers.

Our goal is to assist the consumer and the business reach a mutually satisfactory resolution of their dispute, as well as to avoid the need for court action.  A wide range of issues can be addressed by our intervention, such as automobile sales and repairs, home improvement transactions, retail sales, landlord-tenant disputes, debt collection and credit problems.

Our service includes self-help and referral information.  All complaints filed with our office are incorporated into the Attorney General’s data base.  Since we are not attorneys, we do not provide legal advice or opinions. A complaint form will be mailed to you at your request if your issue is appropriate for our intervention.
