Our mission is to provide safe, comfortable, and well-maintained buildings for Newton’s students, residents, patrons, and staff.

We are responsible for the planning, design, and construction of all capital investments in municipal buildings and schools. Examples of these investments include, replacement of roofs, windows, heating systems, and repair of masonry, electrical, and plumbing systems.  This responsibility includes the renovation and replacement of municipal buildings and schools.

In addition, we are tasked with the maintenance and operations of all 78 buildings. This is completed utilizing our staff tradesmen, as well as over 25 service contractors, to complete a wide array of maintenance and repairs every day. We are also responsible for the cleanliness of City Hall, the Main Library, Parks and Recreation, and a number of other city buildings. This is completed using our staff of 8 custodians.

We are also tasked with monitoring energy consumption in all buildings, enforcing the energy action plan, and implementing energy conservation measures. These measures include, solar panel installation, lighting system retrofits, weatherization/insulation projects, water conservation measures, and heating/cooling system control installation.
